- Mental health challenges in professional musicians: a systematic review of stress, anxiety, and depressionPublication . Cardoso, Mário; Leonido, Levi; Pereira, Antonino; Morgado, ElsaMental health challenges among professional musicians have gained attention due to the unique stressors associated with their careers. This review provides a comprehensive overview of these challenges and identifies potential areas for further research and intervention. A systematic search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, using keywords such as "mental health," "musicians," "professional musicians," "stress," "anxiety," "depression," and "psychological well-being." The findings highlight the multifaceted nature of Music Performance Anxiety (MPA), influenced by psychological, physiological, and environmental factors. Interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), biofeedback, and structured programs like ConfiDance show promise in reducing MPA and enhancing performance. However, additional research is needed to develop interventions tailored to musicians of different skill levels and genres. Further studies should also explore personality traits, performance settings, and long-term coping mechanisms for comprehensive support. The review underscores the significant mental health challenges musicians face, including high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. The demanding nature of their profession—marked by performance pressure, irregular schedules, financial instability, and social isolation—contributes to these issues, potentially affecting creativity and career longevity. Addressing these challenges through targeted interventions is crucial for supporting musicians' mental well-being.
- A critical analysis of the portuguese framework for entrepreneurship education considering the EntreComp competence frameworkPublication . Banha, Francisco; Graça, André Rui; Góis, Beatriz; Banha, Francisco MiguelThis paper critically examines the recently approved Portuguese Framework for Entrepreneurship Education (REE), in 2024, a key policy document aimed at implementing entrepreneurship education (EE) in compulsory public education. It addresses the historical context and current challenges of EE in Portugal, where participation in EE programmes has been limited. The REE is part of a broader initiative under the Citizenship Education subject, aiming to develop entrepreneurial skills among students as they progress through the education system. This article explores the evolution of EE frameworks, particularly focusing on the European Entrepreneurship Competence Framework (EntreComp), which has been widely adopted across Europe. It investigates how these frameworks, including the REE, contribute to the development of entrepreneurial competencies—skills that go beyond business creation to foster creativity, resilience, and problem-solving. The paper also highlights the benefits and challenges of implementing EE, including the need for tailored teaching materials and the importance of teacher support. By presenting Portugal’s recent efforts to integrate EE into its curriculum, this paper contributes to the international discourse on effective strategies for fostering entrepreneurial skills. It emphasises the role of such frameworks in overcoming barriers to EE, ensuring inclusivity, and addressing the evolving needs of global education systems in the face of rapid socio-economic changes.
- Work-related psychological wellbeing of Catholic priests in Portugal: cross-cultural adaptation of the Francis Burnout inventoryPublication . Fabri, Janaína Mengal Gomes; Francis, Leslie J.; McKenna, Ursula; Roldão, Liliana Isabel Faria; Pereira, Eliane Ramos; Village, Andrew; Caldeira, SílviaThe present study was designed to translate the Francis Burnout Inventory Revised into Portuguese and to test this translation among a snowball sample of 266 Catholic priests serving in Portugal (91% diocesan). The data demonstrated: good internal consistency reliability for the two scales proposed by this instrument (negative affect, α = .89 and positive affect, α = .89); support for the association with a measure of self-compassion; and support for the theory of balanced affect against a measure of thoughts of leaving ministry. The priests were found to display a high level of positive affect that masked a degree of negative affect, with a third of them reporting that fatigue and irritation were part of their daily experience.
