- The impact of smart meters on data protection lawPublication . Camões, DianaThis study aims to analyze the impact of smart meters in regards to data protection law. Having in mind that goal, the investigation takes into account the main goals of energy law, which were reinforced by the Directive 2019/944 (the fourth package). Nowadays, information is power. Being smart meters an important mechanism to promote the necessary energetic transaction, as well as to give more power to consumers, we can't ignore the dangers that might come from its use, namely in regards to data protection law. Thus, we analyze not only how may the data collected go beyond the smart meters' goals, as well as who are, on this context, the controllers and processors. On the other hand, this investigation also has in consideration the difficulty that might exist in the legal basis for processing, as well as which conflicts emerge from the application of the Fourth Package and the General Data Protection Regulation. Having in mind the economic importance of the energy sector, its transition can't be indifferent to the problematics related with personal data, in an era where this is the new oil.

- Knowledge production in visual arts organisations: a case study on the triangle networkPublication . Steinvorth, Sofia Ana EliseThe present research aims to advance two central questions: (1) what does ‘knowledge production’ mean in the context of contemporary curatorial practice and (2) how do VAOs fulfil this objective through their programmes.To a certain extent, the inquiry into the second question will provide insights into the first one. Looking at visual arts organisations (VAOs) from a curatorial perspective, their institutional practices of knowledge production between the realms of the local and the global stand out. Focusing on three of the Triangle Network's partner organisations – HANGAR in Lisbon, Gasworks in London and 32º East in Kampala – three means of knowledge production in VAOs are defined and elaborated on: mediation, representation, and conviviality. The study highlights the existence of various knowledge(s) and insists on their importance.

- Assessment of the bioaccessibility and bioavailability prediction of omega 3 and conjugated fatty acids by in vitro standardized digestion model (INFOGEST) and cell modelPublication . Conjugated linoleic and linolenic acids are known for their anti-carcinogenic effect, anti-inflammatory properties and body weight reduction. To achieve therapeutical doses, high amounts of these fatty acids’ food sources must be consumed. Thus, the intake of enriched oils with a high concentration of these fatty acids is often used. But several factors influence their bioavailability. Here, by using the INFOGEST static in vitro protocol of gastrointestinal tract digestion it was studied the bioaccessibility of these fatty acids in different matrixes: Pomegranate and Fish oil and omega 3, CLA and CLNA soft-gel enriched capsules. After digestion, the Recovery Index for the major bioactive PUFAs are very low: Pomegranate oil is 2%, Fish oil 11–13%, CLNA 17%, CLA 6% and Omega 3 capsules 3%. Higher initial concentrations of these PUFAs seem to be related to higher degrees of oxidation. In Pomegranate oil, CLNA and Omega 3 capsules, the digestion process negatively influenced the antioxidant potential. The opposite was verified for the Fish oil and CLA capsules. Importantly, bioaccessibility studies of similar matrixes are very scarce and intestinal permeability is absent in most of the studies. Intestinal permeability studies were performed using a Caco-2/HT29-MTX co-culture: there is significative incorporation of the bioactive fatty acids into the intestinal cells, which may affect their permeability performance. Interestingly, most fatty acids remain in the non-bioaccessible fraction which may be relevant when designing oral routes of administration and in gut microbiota modulation.
