- Women in leadership positions : how do female leaders address challenges associated with their role in a male-dominated organizational environment?Publication . Brunner, Sophie Sabine; Ramus, TommasoIn today’s fast moving business environment outstanding leaders are needed. However, women have a significant under-representation in executive positions in many European countries. The aim of this dissertation is to identify the challenges that female leaders have to address in a male-dominated environment and the strategies they can perform to overcome them. For this purpose, the literature dedicated to female leadership was analyzed and a qualitative research was conducted, which comprised of ten interviews with female executives. The findings show that female leaders follow different strategies that play at individual, group and network level in order to overcome emerging challenges when ascending in their business environment. As a result, these strategies enable women in leadership positions to act as institutional change agents. This research might be of relevance for women which are currently addressing challenges and also for young females who aim to achieve an executive position. Consequently, this master thesis contributes to the academic literature by offering strategic responses to emerging challenges while simultaneously providing a new perspective on women in leadership positions.
- The influence of memory and life experiences in the rewriting of the Bible: Agency as a(n) unconscious feature in (re)translationPublication . Sousa, Márcia DiasThis project aims to analyze how the Catholic Bible has been (re)translated in a particular creative writing process. The case study is Colleen Carroll Campbell’s autobiographical work My Sisters the Saints: a Spiritual Memoir, in which specific biblical excerpts have been integrated into the authorial discourse. The relation between translation and memory will be crucial in this analysis: on the one hand, the author was raised in a strong Catholic environment in which reciting the Bible was a daily habit. On the other hand, the biblical verses were conveyed in such a way as “to get the right feel” (as she confided in an interview), i.e. to accord with the (personal) narrative as a whole. That is to say that they were essentially based on her memories, even if that made her distance herself from the published, approved or well-established versions of the Catholic English Bible which she had defined as her major references. This paper focuses upon the notion of agency in order to examine how personal experiences can determine how an author chooses to (re)translate such “authoritative” texts as biblical verses, as well as the possible reasons and effects of the options taken – that is, the contours of the rewriting pursued.

Este estudo tem como objetivos avaliar as diferenças entre as mulheres vítimas de VPI polivitimizadas e não polivitimizadas; a relação entre VPI, trauma na infância, Perturbação de stress pós-traumático (PTSD) comportamentos de risco para a saúde e doenças crónicas; os preditores dos comportamentos de risco para a saúde e doenças crónicas; se alguma variável sociodemográfica e psicossocial modera o impacto dos agentes stressores. A amostra por conveniência é de 80 mulheres (40 mulheres polivitimizadas e 40 mulheres não polivitimizadas), em que os instrumentos a aplicar são Questionário Sociodemográfico, Questionário de História de Trauma na Infância (ACE), Questionário de Hábitos de Saúde, Rotterdam Symptom Checklist (RSCL).
