Abreu, José GuilhermeOur study states the role that applied arts, as they were meant by Arts and Crafts movement’s socialistic ideario, have had in the expansion of the concept and use of art works, beyond the values of formal and symbolic representations which have supported the academic system of the fine arts since the Renaissance. By Modern Public Art, we refer to the movement launched, under the designation of “Public Art”, by a series of “Public Art Societies” which were created both in Europe and North-America in the last quarter of the 19th century, having as first major public appearance the cosmopolitan stages of the Great Universal Expositions. This international movement came to an end after the first decade of the 20th century, due to the growth of international political, economic and bellicose antagonism, which first lead to the raise of nationalistic ideologies and soon to military confront, blocking the young international movement in favour of Public Art.
- Strike a happy medium: the effect of it knowledge on venture capitalists' overconfidence in it investmentsPublication . Singh, Harpreet; Aggarwal, Rohit; Cojuharenco, IrinaIn this article, the effect of IT knowledge on the overconfidence of venture capitalists (VCs) in their IT investments is examined. Our findings show that the effect of IT knowledge on overconfidence is nonlinear. VCs with moderate levels of IT knowledge are least overconfident. At the same time, VCs with moderate levels of IT knowledge are most resistant to the biasing effects of past successes. Past failures show a negative association with overconfidence independent of the level of the VC's IT knowledge. Finally, the negative association between stakes and VC overconfidence is stronger with greater levels of IT knowledge. These results shed light on the highly disputed role of IT knowledge in the domain of IT investments.
- Michel Henry: affectivity and hallucinationPublication . Antúnez, Andrés Eduardo Aguirre; Martins, FlorindaIn this article, we show how Michel Henry takes hallucination as a paradigm of the phenomenality of life. According to him, the phenomenality of hallucination refers us to the affective life laid bare by the phenomenality of subjective life. And because the affective life is pure experience brought to existence from life through modes of hearing, vision, anxiety, fear, in it, hallucination, while phenomenon suspended in its own phenomenality, appears as a phenomenon that is exemplary of life, though experienced in a feeling of pure intolerability of this affective experience of life. However, it is from the experience of intolerability of the self-experience of life that one finds, inherent to the feeling of affection of life, the possibility of reverting suffering into fruition. We also show convergences between the phenomenality of the affective life and clinical, laboratorial or other practices, and their developments into interdisciplinarity in our research group.
