- Potential of the platforms for assessment/monitoring the healthPublication . Costa, Tânia; Pinto, Catarina; Afonso, Diogo; Laranjeira, Sara; Ferreira, Claúdia; Amado, João; Queiróz e Melo, JoãoIntroduction: Aging associated with socio-economic and family changes contributes to the emergence of challenges for elderly/informal carers. Thus, identifying the needs of the elderly and intervene in time are the most relevant advantages of this technology. Objectives: Characterize the potential of "True - Kare" service, while evaluation/ monitoring platform the health of the elderly at distance. Methods: Cross interventional pilot study, alternating "cases" and "controls" previously and intentionally selected those who met the inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out by semi-structured interview followed by descriptive/inferential analysis. The ethics committee evaluated and approved the study. Results: From the 50 elderly studied, 28 (56 %) had 80 or more years old. All suffered, at least, one chronic disease and registered an average of 4.9 diseases per individual; 46 ingested drugs, 4 different drugs/day (minimum of 1 and maximum of 9 drugs) on average. However, last year, they acceded on average to 4 consultations (medical/family nurse) in the context of health programs; 30 seniors report that such consultations are not sufficient to eliminate the difficulties associated with the management of therapeutic regimen, highlighting the potential that the True-Kare can take on this area. Conclusion: The elderly become more dependent on health care, that is worrying in the current context.. In this sense, ensured the implementation of diagnostic activity and planning interventions gradual/custom mode (related to the evaluation of results ), the True-Kare can be assumed as a tool in managing integrated cases in the informal/professional care, contributing to one favorable cost-benefit ratio.

- Microangiopatia diabética, saúde oral e oftalmologia : que relação?Publication .

- Cathodic voltammetric detection of diltiazem at a bismuth film electrode: application to human urine and pharmaceuticalsPublication . Catarino, Rita I. L.; Leal, M. Fernanda C.; Pimenta, Adriana M.; Souto, M. Renata S.; Lopes, Joana R. T.In this work it was developed a novel application of bismuth film electrodes (BiFEs) for the determination of the antihypertensive and coronary vasodilator diltiazem by square wave cathodic voltammetry. The bismuth film was deposited ex situ on a glassy carbon electrode for 90 s at -1.4 V vs. Ag/AgCl, from an acetate buffer (pH 4.5; 0.10 mol L-1) containing 5 or 30 mg L -1 Bi. Diltiazem analytical signal was obtained in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4; 0.25 mol L-1) where reduction takes place at -1.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The proposed methodology was applied to the quantification of diltiazem in pharmaceutical samples (dynamic linear range comprised between 90 and 900 μg L-1) and in human urine (dynamic linear range comprised between 45 and 270 μg L-1, and detection limit of 12 μg L -1).
- Using virtual robot-mediated play activities to assess cognitive skillsPublication . Encarnação, Pedro; Alvarez, Liliana; Rios, Adriana; Maya, Catarina; Adams, Kim; Cook, AlPurpose: To evaluate the feasibility of using virtual robot-mediated play activities to assess cognitive skills. Method: Children with and without disabilities utilized both a physical robot and a matching virtual robot to perform the same play activities. The activities were designed such that successfully performing them is an indication of understanding of the underlying cognitive skills. Results: Participants' performance with both robots was similar when evaluated by the success rates in each of the activities. Session video analysis encompassing participants' behavioral, interaction and communication aspects revealed differences in sustained attention, visuospatial and temporal perception, and self-regulation, favoring the virtual robot. Conclusions: The study shows that virtual robots are a viable alternative to the use of physical robots for assessing children's cognitive skills, with the potential of overcoming limitations of physical robots such as cost, reliability and the need for on-site technical support.
- Market distortions and local indeterminacy: a general approachPublication . Lloyd-Braga, Teresa; Modesto, Leonor; Seegmuller, ThomasWe provide a methodology to study the role of market distortions on the emergence of indeterminacy and bifurcations. It consists in introducing general specifications for the elasticities of the crucial functions defining the aggregate equilibrium dynamics of the model. This allows us to study how market distortions influence the range of values for the elasticity of input substitution under which local indeterminacy and bifurcations occur, highlighting the main channels and classes of distortions responsible for indeterminacy. Most of the specific market imperfections considered in the related literature are particular cases of our framework. Comparing them we obtain several equivalence results in terms of local dynamic properties. Applying this methodology to the Woodford [30] framework we find that distortions in the capital market, per se, do not play a major role. We further show that, for empirically plausible values of elasticity of substitution between inputs, indeterminacy requires a minimal degree of distortions. This degree seems to be high under output market distortions, while with labor market distortions the required degree is empirically plausible.
