- E-Pharmacy : a tranquilizer for seniors?Publication . Lasserez, Hortense; Olson, Erik“E-Pharmacy – A tranquilizer for seniors?” This exploratory research was written as a part of my International Master of Science in Business Administration, fall 2011 - spring 2013. Above all, this paper aims at providing some insights into this increasingly important market segment "seniors" but also a better comprehension and suggest that different strategies have to be developed by pharmacies in order to satisfy this particular population. The findings are consistent with previous research on senior consumer behaviour, and address new topics as their interest in e-commerce and the impact of cognitive age on their willingness to adopt the online pharmacy.
- Strategic management of natural disasters : Italy, Japan and the United States in comparisonPublication . Leone, Francesca; Løwendahl, Bente R.Italy, Japan and the United States are exposed to numerous natural hazards. In particular, geophysical, hydro-meteorological and climatological extreme events have produced loss of human life, injuries and extensive damage to homes, businesses and other infrastructure. In this dissertation, the Italian, Japanese and American disaster planning and management abilities of the last twenty years are analyzed and evaluated according to two common frameworks in disaster Literature: Hyogo (2005) requirements for good preparedness planning and Quarantelli’s (1997) ten criteria for good disaster management. Moreover, while authors prevalently confine the application of stakeholder theories to private sector contexts, this thesis approaches disaster management issues by applying Freeman’s (1984) definition and Savage et al.’s (1991) model of stakeholder management. As a result of the combination of disaster management principles and stakeholder theories, the conclusions reached through this research may inspire Italian, Japanese and American policymakers and emergency managers on how to ideally plan for and manage natural disasters, while taking into consideration and appropriately approaching the involved emergency management stakeholders.
- Coopetition and strategic networks in the fast-moving consumer-goods industry : category management as a strategic opportunity in crisisPublication . Matias, Salvador d'Orey Manuel Correia; Harrison, DebbieManagers need to understand that networks should be an important part of their strategy and that cooperation and competition should be intertwined in the business context. The biggest opportunities in business don’t come from playing the game better than everyone else - they come from changing the fundamental nature of the game itself to your advantage. In a context of crisis, these aspects take an even bigger importance, since most of companies fail to grow or to present results. I introduce a tapered approach to the fast-moving consumer goods industry in order to relate these strategic networks with the coopetition theory. Taking the interviews made to the players hovering in this industry in addition to the existing body of knowledge of published articles and recent environmental dynamics into consideration, this paper will attempt to compare and contrast the category management approaches regarding coopetition and tactical networks’ practices, inserting this concept in a broader strategic view that encompass not only the marketing understanding, but also the strategy point of view, enclosing it as a strategic coopetitive tool and alternative to grow, especially important in crisis times. This thesis will be supported by one case study that intend to illustrate the evolution of the networking-level strategy and coopetition in the consumer-goods industry, mainly supported by the category trade management in a context of crisis.
