- Relação entre o mindfulness e o ajustamento psicossocial à diabetes tipo I numa amostra de adolescentesPublication . Costa, Sandy Ferreira da; Ramos, Rui Alexandre DevesaA diabetes mellitus tipo I (DMI) é um tipo de diabetes que aparece mais frequentemente nas crianças e nos jovens e acarreta um tratamento rigoroso. Tem sido bem estabelecida a relação entre sintomas psicológicos desadaptativos, nomeadamente, baixa adesão terapêutica, stresse, ansiedade e depressão, entre os jovens portadores de DMI. Tal relação requer uma investigação sistemática. Nesta ótica, o mindfulness tem recebido um interesse crescente em áreas como saúde mental e na doença crónica. Assim, este estudo tem como objetivos estudar a relação entre o mindfulness e o ajustamento psicossocial à DMI no adolescente, assim como, conhecer o peso relativo da medida do mindfulness, e os seus diferentes fatores em relação ao stresse face à diabetes. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, correlacional e transversal, recorrendo-se a uma amostra de conveniência de 40 adolescentes com DMI da Consulta de Diabetes Pediátrica do Centro Hospitalar do Alto Ave, EPE e do Hospital de Braga. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: o Questionário de Adesão Terapêutica; o Questionário das Cinco Facetas de Mindfulness, o Questionário de Stresse Face à Diabetes e a Escala de Ansiedade e Depressão Hospitalar. Realizaram-se também análises bioquímicas da hemoglobina glicosilada (HbA1c). Os resultados deste estudo vêm corroborar a existência de uma relação significativa entre mindfulness e o ajustamento psicossocial à diabetes, estando níveis mais elevados de mindfulness associados a maior ajustamento psicossocial na DMI. Constatou-se que, o mindfulness está significativamente correlacionado com o stresse face à diabetes. Os resultados revelaram ainda, que níveis superiores de mindfulness estão associados a menos sintomatologia ansiosa e depressiva. No entanto, não encontramos correlações estatisticamente significativas entre o mindfulness e a adesão ao tratamento. Verificou-se ainda, que a competência, do mindfulness, “Descrever” é a variável que melhor relação negativa apresenta com a variável “Stresse face à Diabetes”.
- IBM Smarter Buildings : strategic alliance – friend or fowl?Publication . The goal is to offer students a ground for class discussion where they can apply strategic frameworks to a practical case. IBM, one of the largest multinational technology and consulting corporation is presently introducing a new product: an energy management solution for buildings. In order to ensure the success of the new product IBM has to decide on a market entry strategy. One of the possibilities at hand is to engage into a strategic alliance with another company, possibly Schneider Electric. This topic of strategic alliances will form the focus of this case study. The strategic decision of whether to enter a partnership will require the analysis for main implications, potential advantages and practical challenges of such. The paper is divided into three sections: The first presents the case itself with an introduction of the main characters, the companies and the business situation. The problem structure and business decision is presented with detailed background information on the current market and competitors. The second part contains the literature review where relevant theory and useful frameworks are presented. The literature works as a linkage between the case study and the teaching note in the last section. The teaching note gives detailed guidelines for instructors on how to apply the case in class and suggests main discussion topics and key questions to allow in-depth analysis for students.
