- A longitudinal observation of one-to-one singing lessons: The effects of personality and Adult attachment.Publication . Serra-Dawa, SofiaInstrumental and singing teaching has previously been studied with par- particular focus on pedagogical, cognitive, technical, developmental aspects. However, the relationship and interactions that take place between the teachers and students in that setting deserve more extensive exploration. This study approaches the singing teacher-student relationship with a particular focus on the observation of personality traits and the levels of attachment identified between teacher and student. Eleven singing teachers with 54 students were observed in one-to-one singing lessons through video observations made during one academic year. Additionally, teachers and students completed the questionnaires NEO FFI-R and Adult attachment Scale to evaluate personality and attachment. The interaction between teacher and student include a wide list of variables: personality combination, the individual background, kind of attachment felt toward each other, and many other singing aspects, suggesting that the relationship with the student could have major impact on other aspects of singing.
- Uncoupling the sensory effects of 1-Methylcyclopropene and Ripening stage on 'Hayward' KiwifruitPublication . Almeida, Domingos P. F.; Gomes, Maria Helena'Hayward' kiwifruit were treated with 0.5 μL·L-1 of 1-methylcyclopropene (1- MCP) and stored in air at 0 °C. Treatment with 1-MCP reduced softening of kiwifruit during storage but did not affect soluble solids or titratable acidity. Sensory analyses were performed by a consumer panel and by trained panelists after 41, 77, and 161 days in storage. 1-MCP treatment negatively affected consumer preference, expressed as degree of liking. The trained panel clearly perceived 1-MCP-treated kiwifruit after 41 days in storage at 0 °C as more sour and firmer but less juicy, less sweet, and less flavorful than untreated fruit. After 161 days in storage, the perceived differences between 1-MCP-treated and untreated fruit had been reduced for sweetness and acidity, but the panel perceived 1-MCP-treated fruit as firmer and lagging behind in the ripening process. Altering the poststorage ripening rate, by placing 1-MCP-treated fruit at a higher temperature than untreated controls, allowed fruit to develop in such a way that a sensory panel was unable to distinguish between treatments. This result indicates that 1-MCP-treated fruit can be perceived by the consumer as similar to untreated fruit if adequately conditioned.
- Adding pieces to the Portuguese Sign Language lexicon puzzle: three pilot studiesPublication . Mineiro, Ana; Pereira, Joana; Duarte, Liliana; Morais, IsabelThe main goal of this article is to present several pieces of the “puzzle” concerning Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) lexicon – polissemy, linguistic specialization of forms and the sign’s history throughout time –, thus demonstrating how these pieces fit into the linguistic mechanism of human creativity and the dynamic evolution of languages, two privileged factors in cultural expression.

- Cognitive Studies on Portuguese Sign Language (LGP): a work in progressPublication . Nunes, Maria Vânia Silva; Carvalho, Paulo Vaz de; Mineiro, Ana; Caldas, Alexandre CastroThe main goal of present paper is to present the research lines that we are presently following in the study of Portuguese Sign Language (LGP), including the replication of previous studies in other sign languages (such as a working memory study) but also proposals that are, to our best knowledge, original (such as the study of time perception in deaf). We start by making a review of the theoretical framework that has supported several studies in other sign languages, particularly in American Sign Language (ASL), identifying then the need of replicating these studies for LGP. The status of our works is also presented.
