- Communication strategies of new entrepreneurial ventures towards different funding sources and their ethical and strategical implications : a qualitative analysisPublication . Zeller, Stefan; Ramus, TommasoOver the past decades, scholars on entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship experienced growing importance. A relevant field of research in this context is resource acquisition. New entrepreneurial ventures must acquire resources to assure survival and growth. Of special importance in this connection is venture financing, since entrepreneurs need to communicate with investors to obtain funds. This Master’s thesis examines the adaptation of communication strategies from different entrepreneurs towards different investors, with special attention to transparency in information disclosure. I obtain data in a qualitative manner through in-depth interviews with six entrepreneurs from Germany and Portugal, who operate ventures in the early stage. The analysis is based on theory building from cases as part of analytic induction. I argue that, depending on the venture’s business model (commercial, social and hybrid social), communication strategies and actions differ in various aspects. My study illustrates how the business model and business goals influence transparency in the communication process with investors and identifies its underlying ethical and strategical implications. Based on these findings, I develop a theoretical model and discuss contributions and limitations of the research. In doing so, my thesis contributes to research in the emerging fields of entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship and ethics and entrepreneurship.
