- The steps and recommendations of a franchising process in a micro-company : the case of Family FirstPublication . Sousa, Carolina Fernandes de Sá e; Xavier, RuteBeing a practice used internationally by several companies, franchising emerged as a solution for brands’ expansion and visibility. Portugal is no exception and therefore, some Portuguese companies are implementing franchising processes as the next step of their business development. As requested by Family First, this dissertation aims to drill down the steps and recommendations of a franchising process in a micro-company, in a form of a consulting project. To do so, a benchmark analysis was conducted so as to find the best practices currently operating in the franchising market. This analysis started by identifying, through a top-down approach, the companies that better fit the aim of this study (Master Franchisors and Franchising Experts) through a set of criteria. These companies were posteriorly analysed and interviewed regarding the best practices that lead to a successful implementation and monitoring of a franchising network as well as its main difficulties and setbacks. Once identified the best practices, its associated costs were analysed and two different packs (with different practices) were developed and recommended to the company – Standard and Premium Packs. Furthermore, it was assembled the pricing strategy of Family First’s franchising process, which examines the cost-benefit relationship between the company and its franchisees. Lastly, a financial plan was developed for each of the recommended packs with the main purpose of analysing the profitability of the franchising process investment. The financial plan was forecasted by taking into consideration each pack’s total costs and the recommended remuneration model for the company.
