- The future of outpatient care in GermanyPublication . Morawetz, Franz-Maximilian; Rajsingh, Peter V.This thesis explores the adoption of digital health innovations and telemedicine in Germany, focusing on their potential to enhance the efficiency and quality of care in general medical practices. As digitalization reshapes healthcare, telemedicine presents promising opportunities for improving patient access and optimizing medical workflows. However, its adoption is influenced by various factors, including technological proficiency, patient satisfaction and infrastructural disparities. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from surveys with qualitative insights from interviews with healthcare professionals. Findings revealed a generational divide in telemedicine adoption, with younger demographics showing higher acceptance due to digital literacy, while older generations exhibited barriers such as skepticism and technological challenges. The study also highlights the critical role of usability and trust in shaping patient satisfaction and the complexities underlying adoption trends, as reflected in multivariate regression analyses. To address these challenges, strategic recommendations for practices include investing in digital infrastructure, staff training and patient education to foster trust and confidence in telemedicine solutions. Additionally, collaborative efforts with technology providers can enable the integration of advanced features such as AI diagnostics, bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility and efficiency. This thesis provides actionable insights for practitioners, policymakers and stakeholders aiming to leverage telemedicine effectively in the evolving digital healthcare landscape.
