Sabedoria e fraternidade

Abstract

O presente texto insere-se num conjunto de reflexões destinadas a verificar a maneira como a Igreja Católica reagiu para com a trilogia da Revolução Francesa: Liberdade, Igualdade e Fraternidade. Trata-se aqui do terceiro destes conceitos, a Fraternidade, elemento fulcral para voltar criticamente a uma polémica que marcou, a fundo, a relação entre a Igreja e o mundo intelectual durante os séculos XIX e XX, e que só nas últimas décadas tem vindo a ser encarada com menos crispação. A questão é muito conhecida. Mas convém recordar os seus aspectos mais significativos.

The present text is one of a set of reflexions aimed at showing how the Catholic Church reacted to the trilogy of the French Revolution: Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. It is concerned with the third of these concepts, Fraternity, an essential element in any critical return to the controversy that profoundly marked relations between the Church and the intellectual world during the 19th and 20th centuries, and only in recent decades has come to be confronted with lesser animosity. The question is well known. But it is worth recalling its most significant aspects.
