Resumo(s)

Shared Book Reading is an interactive activity in which a child and a caregiver explore a book. Research has demonstrated that this activity supports language development in the early years, so families are encouraged to incorporate it into their daily routines.,Desjardin and colleagues’ The Responsive Adult–Child Engagement During Joint Book Reading Scale (RACED-JBR) measures parent and child behaviors that have been shown to predict language development in populations of very young children, specifically during Shared Book Reading. This study aims to translate and culturally adapt this scale for use in European Portuguese. Procedures for the translation and cultural adaptation process were guided by the works of Ortiz-Gutiérrez and Cruz-Avelar (2018) and the International Tests Comission (ITC) Guidelines for Translating and Adapting Tests (Second edition) (2017), and informed by the results of a pilot study. This process and its procedures are described, and the European Portuguese version of the RACED-JBR, a Escala de Envolvimento Responsivo Adulto-Criança durante a Leitura Partilhada de Histórias (EERAC-LPH), is presented. This instrument is made available for use by early intervention services professionals to assess Shared Book Reading behaviors, highlight their importance, and provide guidance and support to caregivers.
