Abstract(s)

Some scholars (W. Zimmerli, L. Perlitt) have assumed that the Priesdy Writer deliberately leaves out the Sinaitic Covenant. As a matter of fact, however, two covenant terms (Ex 31, 17) and (Ex 31, 16), occur in the P description of the Sinai event. On the other hand, the structure of the abrahamic covenant (Gen 17) seems to imply that the first part of the P Sinaitic Covenant was lost in the final elaboration of the Pentateuch. Otherwise, and against a P view of covenant, the Sinaitic event would appear as pura lex (the Noah covenant was pura gratia).
