Understanding the magnitude of spillovers will help companies understand their absorptive and appropriability capacity. The field is also of great interest to policymakers to foster domestic innovation and attract foreign R&D inflows. In addition, the world is getting increasingly globalized, and a rising need for understanding international spillovers occurs. This paper is divided into two main sections, (1) explores the concept of spillovers, methodologies for identification and various transmitters of spillovers (2) explores the theories through two case studies in the smartphone industry.
