Although the concept of palliative care is relatively recent, there has always been the tradition of care for patients dying with older roots, as can be seen in documents and texts published in the past. In the eighteenth century and despite the limitations of the time you own and the state of knowledge development, the concerns were already well-known to those who suffered and were in a situation of imminent death. At this point, the process of dying usually happened at home, in bed, being a public act, organized, with a known protocol, which presided over the dying. Death was something familiar and died without fear or despair, resigned and trusting in God, unlike the present concept of medicalized death and hospitalized of our times that this happens to be hidden and disguised with the dying. Despite the historical evolution and science, is still being sought today in the past to find what was achievable good practice and knowledge with current developments and promote the best care and assistance to those in need.
