“Não caberião em todas as paredes delle os seus retratos”: galerias apologéticas luso-italianas das ordens religiosas: entre elencos eruditos e listas iconográficas (sécs. XVII-XVIII)

Abstract

O estudo visa focar a atenção sobre distintas obras literárias luso-italianas, produzidas pelas ordens religiosas, nomeadamente dominicanos e teatinos, entre os séculos XVII e XVIII. Uma reflexão sobre uma produção escrita e iconográfica vertiginosa, a qual, através de específicos códigos históricos, teológicos, literários e iconológicos, permitia uma poderosa visão sinóptica e ao mesmo tempo tangível da extensão dos seus membros no número, qualidade e variedade de funções desenvolvidas em territórios católicos como o italiano ou a península atlântica e o seu Império.

The study aims to focus its attention on the different luso-italian literary works created by religious orders, namely the dominicans and the theatines, between the 17th and the 18th centuries. A reflection about a staggering written and iconographic production which, through specific historical, theological, literary and iconological codes, allows for a powerful synoptic vision and, at the same time, translates the extension of its members in their number, quality and variety of functions developed in catholic territories such as the italian one or the athlantic peninsula and its Empire.
