The present study discusses, in an abbreviated form, the characterisation of a baroque ethos by literature, especially born out of the Marxist-inspired sociological approach (Bolívar Echevarría). We propose to present a complex baroque in space (European, Ameri-can and Eastern) and time (before and after the Peace of Westphalia). This complexity is increased by the rupture of man's project of understanding the relationship between the nat-ural and supernatural order within the framework of the creation story.
