Although stakeholders are slowly moving towards this change, due to higher initial investments and established old business models, a directive is shifting the sector to decrease its carbon footprint. This study aims to determine the impacts of a “Green Reboot” on the European construction sector with the following questions: “To what extent will a “Green Reboot” impact the European construction sector?” and “How will it look like once this reboot has taken place over the sector?”. Based on a review of the literature and four semi-structured expert interviews, the diffusion of near-zero energy buildings (nZEBs) and three future scenarios were analysed. The results demonstrated that there are significant impacts on the sector coming from the diffusion of the nZEBs that cause substantial savings in energy use. Moreover, the future scenarios demonstrated that the sector had begun the movement towards sustainable development. On this basis, it is recommended that stakeholders shall prepare in order to thrive in a “Green” sector. Further research is needed to identify other factors that could affect the sector in its movement towards sustainability.O setor de construção europeu está à beira de uma mudança inovadora à medida que novos requisitos sustentáveis ameaçam o domínio dos métodos tradicionais de construção. Embora as partes interessadas estejam caminhando lentamente para essa mudança, devido aos investimentos iniciais mais altos e aos antigos modelos de negócios estabelecidos, uma diretiva está mudando o setor para diminuir sua pegada de carbono. Este estudo tem como objetivo determinar os impactos de uma “reinicialização verde” no setor de construção europeu, com as seguintes perguntas: “Até que ponto uma “reinicialização verde” afetará o setor de construção europeu?” e “Como será uma vez assim que essa reinicialização ocorreu sobre o setor?”. Com base em uma revisão da literatura e em quatro entrevistas semiestruturadas com especialistas, analisou-se a difusão de edifícios com energia quase zero (nZEBs), e a criação de três cenários futuros. Os resultados demonstraram que há grandes impactos no setor advindos da difusão dos nZEBs que causam economias substanciais no uso de energia. Além disso, os cenários futuros demonstraram que o setor já iniciou o movimento em direção ao desenvolvimento sustentável. Nesta base, recomenda-se que as partes interessadas se preparem para que possam prosperar em um setor “verde”.
