Not only are these acts severe, they are often repeated and can culminate in the death of the victim. However, it can also happen that the victim decides to kill their tyrant in order to escape the "domestic tyranny" that they have been living under for a long period of time. The goal of this dissertation is to examine the legal and criminal framework of this action, specifically, to analyse whether it is justified under the concept of self-defence or whether it constitutes a crime of privileged homicide.A violência doméstica é um fenómeno preocupante a nível internacional, merecendo uma atenção redobrada. Estas condutas, para além de gravosas, são muitas vezes cometidas de forma reiterada, podendo culminar na morte da vítima. Contudo, pode suceder que a vítima, como forma de fugir à “tirania doméstica” que viveu durante um largo período de tempo, decida matar o seu tirano.
