O Cristianismo marcou e marca de forma indelével a arte Europeia e Ocidental por mais de dois mil anos. As suas raízes, mais marcantes, a sua essência, a sua natureza e as suas mais íntimas transformações e adaptações, muitas vezes desconhecidas, refletem-se na obra deixada, quer no âmbito espiritual, quer na obra edificada. O que se pretende evidenciar, através deste trabalho é o caminho que a arte cristã percorreu, através de várias épocas, marcadas e identificadas, sempre fiel à sua grande inspiração que é Cristo. A simples construção de um edifício, tem na arte cristã o seu lugar de destaque uma vez que edificar, por si só, é uma palavra estruturante de Deus na sua obra de salvação. Desta forma, sigo um itinerário que põe a descoberto a adaptação da arte cristã, cujas modificações são visíveis através da renovação dos espaços de acordo com o Concílio Vaticano II. Para que seja mais visível essa transformação, no espaço, estabeleço o paralelo emblemático entre duas igrejas que falam por si, cada uma delas manifestando a diferença, mas preservando um fator comum, a sua beleza que, dentro da diferença, conserva, no pormenor, a sua inicial identidade.The history of Christian art has given us, through the centuries, images, symbols, profound reflections, techniques, doctrine and sermons, and, above all, answers to questions which only through research can be clarified. Christianity has indelibly marked European and Western art for over two thousand years. Its most significant roots, its essence, its nature, and its most intimate transformations and adaptations, often unknown, are reflected in the work achieved, both in the spiritual and material spheres. What I propose to show, through this composition, is the path which Christian art has followed, along different eras that are marked and identified, and which is always faithful to its great inspiration – Jesus Christ. The mere 10 erection of a building has, in Christian art, its own relevant place since constructing is in itself a structuring word of God in His act of salvation. In this manner, I follow an itinerary that unveils the progression of Christian art, of which the Changes are visible through the adaptation of the spaces in harmony with the Council Vatican II.
