Após mapear os (escassos) trabalhos produzidos com recurso a esta abordagem historiográfica, cuidaremos de apresentar alguns traços distintivos do género biográfico no campo disciplinar histórico, e de analisar as suas tendências mais recentes, em que se destaca: o interesse pela “biografia ordinária”; a articulação entre a trajectória individual e o contexto mais amplo em que esta se desenrola; e a apreensão dos vários planos de existência do biografado. Segue-se a formulação de uma hipótese concreta para aplicar o género biográfico ao estudo da história do Serviço Social em Portugal: a compreensão do percurso biográfico de Marie-Thérèse Lévêque, na sua articulação com o Instituto de Serviço Social de Lisboa (1935-44).This article explores the possibility of applying biographical genre to the historical study of Social Work. After mapping out the (scarce) works produced using this historiographical approach, we will present some of the distinctive features of biographical genre on the historical disciplinary field, and analyse its most recent trends, in which we highlight: the interest in "ordinary biography"; the connection between the individual's trajectory and the broader context; and the understanding of the biographed person's different existence levels.
