Embora reputemos esta questão de essencial para compreender a vida desta instituição durante a Idade Média, julgamos que a mesma não foi ainda devidamente explorada no âmbito das diferentes monografias e artigos que têm vindo a lume sobre o tema. Neste sentido, iremos analisar o quadro da fundação e a primeira fase da existência da universidade em Lisboa, entre 1288 e 1308, com especial enfoque nas rendas que contribuíam para a manutenção do estudo e dos seus mestres, asseguradas por várias igrejas do padroado régio.This paper aims to understand the funding of the Portuguese medieval university; I will explore the incomes from ecclesiastical benefices, not only required for the survival of the magistri but also for the maintenance of the studium generale itself. Although several monographs and articles about the medieval university have been published over the years, I argue that this subject a key-point to understand the Portuguese university in the Middle Ages has not yet been fully and accurately examined.
