Na primeira parte, procura-se fazer uma análise do conceito de Espaço Público e da diferença entre Público e Privado, percorrendo as principais correntes de pensamento político, considerando o Espaço Público moderno caracterizado pelo pluralismo de pensamento e pelo multiculturalismo social. Na segunda parte, faz-se um levantamento da situação da Religião na vida social e no pensamento contemporâneo, explorando os conceitos de desencantamento do mundo, de Max Weber, e de saída da religião, de Marcel Gauchet, e ainda a questão da política como religião. Considerando a religião como um fenómeno social incontornável não apenas nas sociedades tradicionais, mas também nas sociedades modernas, procura-se explorar os conceitos de secularização e, também, o poder da religião no pensamento e na prática dos indivíduos e das sociedades. O ressurgimento do religioso no final do século XX e princípio do século XXI revela a tensão entre a religião e a visibilidade do Espaço Público à qual a Política não pode estar em posição de neutralidade de distanciamento, mas de neutralidade de integraçãoThe search for the place of Religion in the modern Public Space is the main goal of this dissertation. The first part tries to analyse the concept of Public Space and the difference between Public and Private, going through the main trends of political thinking, considering the modern Public Space characterized by the plurality of thought and social multiculturalism. The second part does a survey of the situation of Religion in the social life and in the contemporary thinking, exploring the concepts of Max Weber’s disenchantment of the world and Marcel Gauchet’s exit from religion, as well as the question of politics as a religion. Considering religion as an inevitable social phenomenon not only in traditional societies, but also on modern societies, the concepts of secularization and power of religion on the thinking and actions of both individuals and societies are explored.
