Ainda que contemplada pela legislação portuguesa, a formação ético-deontológica dos professores assume-se como uma área pouco explorada e debatida no meio académico e na literatura científica. Tendo por base um estudo exploratório de natureza qualitativa, desenvolver-se-á, pelo recurso à entrevista, uma organização de ideias, veiculadas por um conjunto de personalidades universitárias ligadas à educação e formação de professores, sobre a premência da reflexão ético-deontológica, o lugar que lhe é atribuído e os moldes espe-cíficos em que a mesma se pode desenvolver. Imbuídos pela tentativa de compreender a dimensão ético-deontológica subja-cente à profissão docente, acreditamos que a mesma poderá contribuir para uma clarifi-cação dos princípios e valores inerentes ao exercício da profissão, bem como uma nova visão sobre a especificidade da classe docente. Assim, é sobre este modo de investigação de matriz interpretativa, e da necessária análise de resultados do mesmo, que versará a investigação que apresentamos.Recognizing in the teaching profession very particular characteristics that, among others, contribute to the overall construction of the person in the process of train-ing and development that we consider to be marked by ethical principles and values, we would like this investigation to determine the importance given to knowledge and awareness of the ethics, of the values and Ethics in the teacher´s training and profes-sional development. Even though it is contemplated by the Portuguese legislation, ethical and deonto-logical training of teachers is understood as an area that has not yet been explored and debated in academic and in the scientific literature to its full extent. Based on an exploratory study of a qualitative nature, that will develop, by the use of interview, a group of ideas taken up by a group of university personalities linked to education and teacher training, reflecting on the urgency of ethical and professional conduct, the position assigned to it and the ways in which it can be developed. Inspired with the attempt to understand the ethical-conduct underlying the teach-ing profession, we believe that it could contribute to a clarification of the principles and values underlying the practice of the profession, as well as new insight into the specific-ity of the teaching profession.
