We begin by defining AIDSS and analysing their applications in military operations, disclosing both the benefits and risks associated with their use. Subsequently, we consider the adequacy of AIDSS with International Humanitarian Law (IHL), particularly with regard to how these systems align with the fundamental principles of distinction and proportionality, and the obligation of legal review enshrined in Article 36 of Additional Protocol I. Posteriorly, we focus on specific legal challenges of these systems’ application in practice, analysing the role Humans and States both play in this paradigm. Ultimately, we mention what should be done in the way forward.A presente tese explora a integração dos Sistemas de Apoio à Decisão com Inteligência Artificial (AIDSS) no contexto dos conflitos armados, analisando as suas potencialidades e os desafios que colocam. Começamos por definir os AIDSS e analisar as suas aplicações em operações militares, referindo os benefícios e os riscos associados à sua utilização. Posteriormente, analisamos a adequação dos AIDSS ao Direito Internacional Humanitário (DIH), nomeadamente no que respeita ao alinhamento destes sistemas com os princípios fundamentais da distinção e da proporcionalidade, e com a obrigação de revisão legal consagrada no Artigo 36º do Protocolo Adicional I. Posteriormente, focamo-nos nos desafios legais específicos da aplicação destes sistemas na prática, analisando o papel que ambos os Humanos e os Estados desempenham neste paradigma.
