Ferramentas como a Support Needs Approach for Patients (SNAP Tool) tem demonstrado um impacto positivo na comunicação entre o doente e o profissional de saúde, ajudando a identificar as necessidades do doente. O objetivo deste estudo é traduzir e validar a SNAP Tool para a população portuguesa. Metodologia: A fase inicial do estudo foi dedicada ao processo de tradução e adaptação da ferramenta para a língua portuguesa, e uma segunda fase onde foi validada a compreensão pelos doentes da versão pré-teste obtida na fase anterior através de entrevistas semiestruturadas. O estudo conta com uma amostra de nove participantes composta por doentes com necessidades paliativas no contexto do seu domicílio. Resultados: Os resultados indicam que a versão traduzida da SNAP Tool, assim como a versão original, permite aos doentes com necessidades paliativas expressar as suas necessidades à sua equipa de saúde. Conclusões: Este estudo teve como finalidade validar para a população portuguesa a SNAP Tool, de forma a garantir que esta ferramenta seja compreendida e relevante para os doentes com necessidades paliativas em Portugal. A SNAP Tool procura ser um elemento facilitador da comunicação entre o doente e o profissional de saúde, ajudando na identificação das necessidades dos doentes, permitindo um plano de cuidados mais individualizado. A versão portuguesa da SNAP Tool tem o potencial para melhorar a identificação de necessidades e, consequentemente, a qualidade dos cuidados prestados aos doentes com doenças crónicas limitadoras da vida.Introduction: Recognizing the needs of palliative patients is a crucial challenge in Palliative Care. Tools like the Support Needs Approach for Patients (SNAP Tool) have shown a positive impact on communication between the patient and healthcare professionals, helping to identify patient needs. The aim of this study is to translate and validate the SNAP Tool for the Portuguese population. Methodology: The initial phase of the study focused on the translation and cultural adaptation of the tool to Portuguese, followed by a second phase where the understanding of the pre-test version was validated through semi-structured interviews with patients. The study involved a sample of nine participants, consisting of palliative patients in their home care context. Results: The results indicate that the translated version of the SNAP Tool, like the original version, allows patients with palliative care needs to express their needs to their healthcare team. Conclusions: The purpose of this study was to validate the SNAP Tool for the Portuguese population, ensuring that it is understood and relevant for patients with palliative care needs in Portugal. The SNAP Tool aims to facilitate communication between the patient and the healthcare professional, helping to identify patient needs and enabling a more personalized care plan.
