Under the framework that Social Pedagogy is a relevant and specific educational knowledge, this in line with what has been defended in our country, by authors such as Isabel Baptista (2008), Adalberto Dias de Carvalho (2004), Ricardo Vieira (2016), Ana Vieira (2016) and Joaquim Azevedo (2009), among others, the study realized the historical period related to the last two decades (1994-2014), recognized as a critical period for social pedagogy in our country and allowed to show, not only the relevance of this area knowledge, as the process of consolidation of professional groups with pedagogicosocial vocation, as is the case of Soci al Educators and Sociocultural Animators. Based on a process of data collection integrated in a qualitative/interpretative paradigm and developed through document analysis and inquiry of actors, a process during which the role was assigned to the actors themselves, was achieved the perception that social pedagogues today occupy intervention projects in the municipalities, in social welfare institutions and in t he field of school-familycommunity.porSocial PedagogySocial EducationSociocultural AnimationLifelong LearningPedagogia social em Portugal, sobre o estatuto profissionalconference object
