Esta dissertação tem como principal objetivo investigar a escrita literária e o pensamento
de José Tolentino de Mendonça a respeito do espaço místico, numa atmosfera cultural pósmoderna.
Indagaremos como o autor perspetiva a mística no nosso quotidiano sua natureza
e origens, onde se revela ou se esconde, e como aplicá-la nos dias de hoje. Focar-nos-emos
em particular no ensaio A Mística do Instante O Tempo e a Promessa (Mendonça, 2014b),
obra que servirá de farol para o desenvolvimento desta tese, a par de outras obras de cariz
ensaístico e poético do autor. Veremos como esta temática se entrecruza com outras linhas de
pensamento, isto é, com outras artes (música, cinema, dança), amiúde mencionadas pelo poeta
e ensaísta. Deter-nos-emos sobretudo no simbolismo deste espaço relacional como proposta
para a sociedade mediática e cansada dos dias de hoje, que procura redescobrir-se numa nova
visão do sagrado, quer na literatura quer em outras metarrativas.
This dissertation explores the writings and thinking of Jose Tolentino de Mendonça with regard to the mystical tradition in postmodern culture. We will examine how the author places the mystical perspective in daily life the nature and origins of the mystical, where it is revealed or hidden, and how to apply it in the present day. The book A Mística do Instante O Tempo e a Promessa (MENDONÇA, 2014b) will serve as the beacon for the development of this thesis, along with other essays and poetic works of the author. We will also see how the mystical tradition intertwines with trains of thought about the other arts (music, cinema, dance), which he often discusses. We will investigate how these relationships suggest that the society we live in which is overwhelmed by media and other distractions can rediscover itself through a new vision of the sacred, whether through literature or other metanarratives.
