- Abordagem à família em processo de doação de órgãos : um cuidado especializadoPublication . Silva, Ana Rita Ribeiro; Fernandes, Filipa Alexandra VeludoThe present report is carried out in the framework of the Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialization and master’s degree in nursing for the Person in Critical Situation, from the Nursing School of Lisbon, a division of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and intends to mirror the path taken in the acquisition and development of specialised clinical skills. While serving has a moment of evaluation in the scope of the curricular unit entitled “Final Internship and Report”, this work also aims to awarding of the academic title of Master and Medical-Surgical Specialist Nurse. The main goals of this endeavor are the methodical description and reflective analysis of the skills of a Master and Specialist Nurse, which were acquired and developed along the way, and to share the results obtained during this research. For this critical and reflective analysis, which integrates the theoretical “know how”, a path was carefully outlined that, while contemplating different experiences, ultimately lead to the acquisition of skills that are required for a specialist nurse. For that, three traineeship environments were selected: General Emergency Room, Specialised Intensive Care Unit and the General-purpose Intensive Care Unit. Besides the countless experience and knowledge exchanges during the traineeships, in different multidisciplinary teams, the work carried out allowed, along with the research work, the launch of a Scoping Review, which is, now, under review, with the aim of being submitted to scientific journals and presented in seminars. The research work carried out concerns a Scoping Review, conducted in the context of the needs of the family during organ and tissue donation, which, in turn, relates transversally to many of the traineeship’s scopes. Organ and tissue transplantation is a highly successful procedure due to the strives it witnessed in such a short amount of time. The technical and scientific advancements have allowed the enhancement of therapeutic options and quality of life. During the donation process, the family experiences several challenges that arise from the fear and lack of information that are inherent to it, which makes essential supporting the family while they cope with all the feelings and doubts. The role of the nurse is determinant in the provision of care not only to the donor, but also to the family, resulting in the creation of a therapeutical relationship. The experiences that the family goes through during the entirety of the process have been the target of discussion in many studies, since the acknowledgment of the needs of the family by healthcare professionals allows for a better adaptation of the former to the donation process. For that reason, the authors consider pertinent the conduction of a Scoping Review, based on the proposed methodology, with the goal of mapping the needs of the family during the donation process. By mapping the evidence on the chosen topic, four categories emerged: the need for information, emotional support, material and environmental needs and, finally, the need for follow-up. The theoretical points of reference, which contributed to the development of an excellent specialised care and guided the nursing doctrine behind this journey and work, were the Transitions Theory from Afaf Meleis and the study conducted by Patricia Benner entitled “Novice to expert”.
- Abordagem à pessoa vítima de trauma no serviço de urgência : cuidado especializadoPublication . Gonçalves, Nuno Afonso; Rabiais, Isabel Cristina MascarenhasThe current Internship Report was developed within the Curricular Unit “Estágio Final e Relatório”, integrated in the Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Specialization Area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation at the Nursing School of Lisbon from Universidade Católica Portuguesa. This report aims to defend and acquire the Master academic degree, supported by sharing the educational journey that took place throughout these three semesters of the master’s studies, by sharing the general and specific competences developed, communicating the results of clinical learning, and critically reflecting on the complex issues of the professional practice. Furthermore, this report aims to share the results of the research component, materialized in Scoping Review, focused on the theme “Nursing Interventions to the trauma victim in the Emergency Department: a Scoping Review”. Trauma can be defined as an illness resulting from the energy exchange between the environment and the body, causing various injuries to different systems and organs. In the Portuguese context, the accident and mortality rates attributed to trauma are among the highest in Europe. Road accidents in Portugal showed one of the worst indexes when compared to other European partners. Most individuals involved in accidents is young, of working age, which exacerbates the social impact of trauma. In this context, and given the problem outlined above, the importance of the Specialist Nurse’s role in caring for victims of trauma becomes clear. Thus, a Scoping Review was conducted with the goal of mapping the Specialist Nurse’ interventions in caring for trauma victims in the emergency department. Throughout this academic journey, my reflection and caregiving practices were primarily grounded in two Nursing theories, notably Patricia Benner’s Theory “Novice to expert” and “Transitions Theory” by Afaf Meleis.

- Adesão ao regime terapêutico na pessoa submetida a transplante de órgão sólido : uma intervenção de enfermagem especializadaPublication . Jesus, Susana Veiga de; Marques, Rita Margarida DouradoThis internship report intends to describe the course of the competence acquisition process throughout the curricular unit “Final Internship and Report” of the third semester of the master’s degree in medical-Surgical Nursing in the Specialization Area: Person in Critical Situation, of Instituto of Health Sciences - Lisbon, from Catholic University of Portugal. This document presents a critical and reasoned reflection on the development of master's and specialist skills based on the Regulation of specific skills of specialist nurses in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation and on the Regulation of Common Skills of Specialist Nurses. For the conclusion of this curricular unit, I carried out an internship in an Intensive Care Unit, Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle and in a Central Emergency Operating Room. In the internship locations, in addition to acquiring skills, I had the opportunity to present to the team a work on effective nursing interventions for the prevention of delirium in critically ill patients, during the internship in intensive care and I was also able to elaborate a rule of procedure regarding the maintenance of normothermia in the context of the operating room. Across the various contexts, I worked on a systematic literature review of evidence of effectiveness on effective interventions in promoting adherence to the therapeutic regimen in people undergoing solid organ transplantation. The results of this research work were published in poster format at the V International Seminar of the master’s in nursing. As a guiding line of thinking in nursing, I integrated two theoretical references in my care provision: Afaf Meleis' Theory of Transitions and Katharine Kolcaba's Theory of Comfort.
- Adoption of AI tools in software development in Germany : curse or blessing for the SME sector?Publication . Blischke, Robin; Rajsingh, PeterThis study investigated the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in Germany's software development sector, focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). AI technologies are reshaping the industry, presenting opportunities and challenges. Using a mixed-methods approach, including 14 expert interviews and a survey of 262 participants, the research identified key factors affected by AI adoption, such as efficiency gains, code quality, competitive pressure, security risks, organizational readiness, technical debt, and ethical concerns. These factors were identified through a literature review, tested via expert interviews, and validated through a survey, adhering to the principle of triangulation. Currently, AI adoption in German SMEs remains in its infancy, primarily focused on enhancing productivity in routine tasks, with strategic integration still limited. Expert insights highlighted SMEs' agility in deploying off-the-shelf AI tools but noted constraints from limited resources and technical expertise. In contrast, large enterprises (LEs) leverage robust infrastructure and R&D investments for more comprehensive AI integration. While AI tools were viewed as an efficiency innovation, findings indicated their disruptive potential to democratize coding, bridge skill gaps, and drive long-term transformations. However, systemic barriers, including security vulnerabilities, ethical dilemmas, and insufficient organizational readiness, continue to hinder widespread adoption. By integrating dynamic capabilities and innovation theories, this research extrapolated AI’s trajectory from incremental efficiency gains to disruptive innovation, fundamentally altering workflows and competitive dynamics. The study offers actionable recommendations to foster readiness, address ethical and security concerns, and promote targeted upskilling for a transformative future.
- All for one or one for all? : an investigation of obstacles to adoption of decentralized technologies in supply chainsPublication . Binder, Paul Henrik; Ilseven, EkinDigital transformation of supply chains changes how businesses operate and plan. While some businesses use data-driven methods to gain a competitive edge, others improve practices for efficiency. Businesses today need to decide between centralized and decentralized technologies to improve security and transparency. Therefore, organizational barriers often cause these technologies to fall short of their potential. This study explores at the main obstacles to supply chain managements use of digital technologies. Eleven managers from small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and multinational corporations (MNCs) were interviewed as part of a qualitative study guided by the Gioia approach. Yet companies prioritize technologies based on their ease of integration, scalability, and efficiency, according to the research. While MNCs frequently use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, SMEs still use manual tracking methods like Excel. Blockchain is recognized for its potential to enhance transparency, but the high costs, the technical complexity and low adoption rates show significant challenges. To overcome these obstacles, businesses need to create comprehensive implementation strategies that go beyond technology and include organizational alignment and process adaption for staff training. Furthermore, rather than concentrating only on short-term efficiency improvements, companies should review performance evaluation frameworks to include long-term advantages like robustness. This study contributes to existing literature by demonstrating that organizational and strategic misalignments rather than technical limitations are the primary obstacles to technology adoption in supply chains. By providing actionable insights this research supports companies in optimizing their digital transformation strategies to build more resilient and transparent supply chain networks.

- Aplicação da escala de news2 em doentes agudos em contexto de internamentoPublication . Tavares, David Alexandre Dias; Martins, Maria de Lurdes dos SantosThe Nursing profession is constantly updated due to health care needs whose responses are constructer using research and scientific evidence, which is essential for the provision of care. The acquisition of specialized technical-scientific skills to provide the best care to the population's demands becomes urgent. Being a nurse is much more than knowing how to do it. To be an excellent professional you need to know how to be, know how to know and know how to do. The nursing paradigm has undergone several changes and therefore, investment in specialized training is essential to provide the best care, based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence. This internship report is part of the Master's Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It will demonstrate in a critical and reflective way the path of acquisition and development of Specialist Nurse skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations, resulting from advances made in the context of the Intensive Care Unit and General Emergency Service. Throughout the report, a theme is developed, namely the application of the NEWS2 Scale, which became fundamental to outline my internship objectives and develop the skills of a master and specialist. A scoping review was carried out, mapping the most recent scientific evidence, evaluating the extent and nature of the literature on the advantages of applying the NEWS2 scale to acute patients, in an inpatient context. The importance of the nurse's assessment of a critically ill patient or one whose clinical condition is about to deteriorate is highlighted, as well as the importance of applying the scale to standardize language and correctly and quickly signal the critically ill patient to different environments, in a hospital context.
- A arquitetura da igreja de Águas, em Penamacor, de Nuno Teotónio Pereira : lugar de fé e oraçãoPublication . Vigário, Ismael Malhadas; Carvalho, Joaquim Augusto Félix deThe work focuses on the characterization of the modern architecture project of the church of Águas, in the municipality of Penamacor, by the architect Nuno Teotónio Pereira and its insertion in the new MRAR program (Movement for the Renewal of Religious Art). To identify in the modern architecture of the church elements of convergence with the new theological and liturgical identity that emerged from the impulse of the Second Vatican Council. Identifying in the church the sacramental value in architecture, when the altar surrounds the assembly and the liturgy, reveals itself in the true expression of community of faith and prayer. Through the quality of the liturgy celebrated in the building, the ecclesial community experiences and transforms itself into a fraternity of evangelical life.
